Artificial Intelligence vs Human Imagination
I'm late this week due to having to make a family members birthday video. However it's given me time to reflect on last weeks guest Christian Baujard's view that AI is now part of the game.
The State of Play
This visualization, based on a Sequoia Capital research article, provides insight into how AI is being applied to disrupt how we currently create or express our creativity. Let’s be realistic this will explode in the coming years. However, it’s worth taking some time to consider how these new tools and applications can be embraced to enable us to unlock our imaginations in ways we could never have before….well imagined.
The full article is here, but this image really started my cogs spinning.
If you want to be informed and sidestep the hype, then take some time to dive into the comprehensive breakdown of the current and future landscape. Anyone who is a writer, an artist or designer, a coder, a game designer, or social media expert, you’ll value a read.
Suggested Action: Saturday morning, read over coffee and let me know your thoughts.
A Playing Field For The Curious
I echo Christian’s thought that AI is just part of a new game. We have to learn to adapt to a new playing field. Here is one example.
Back in 2007, when I was forming the Digital Content and Dev team at McCann London, I had the support of a super-smart young account manager called Alex Bennett-Grant.
I knew Alex was destined for greatness, and he proved this when he formed Amsterdam-based We Are Pi, an award-winning international creative innovation consultancy.
Last weekend Alex attended an AI Hackathon. Not knowing anything about AI or code, but being blessed with a vivid and vibrant imagination, he asked the question.
“Could a Chat AI enable us to talk to loved ones after they pass away?”
Well, that sparked the imaginations of 5 other attendees, and a few hours later, they had built it.
Here is his breakdown of how he did it.
Suggested Action: Ask yourself some big questions as to what you would like to build or create and ask ChatGPT how to do it, or ask some dev friends who may have already begun using the tool.
Let’s Not Get Ahead of Ourselves

Suggested Action: Start pushing the boundaries of these tools.
Strategy - We Need to Know Our Playing Field
The great Rory Sutherland shared this video of Roger Martin, renowned author, and advisor, discussing business strategy.
As Rory says, its a masterclass on smart business thinking, but it was at 26.45, when he discussed the limitations of data informing future strategic decisions;
“it’s an aid to judgment,”
that I thought about the power of our gut instincts in making crucial decisions and implementing new ideas.
For now, AI can’t replicate or regenerate a history of gut feel.
Suggested Action: Ask yourself -what is my unique playing field?
Everything, Everywhere All At Once
Excuse the topical reference, but this resource of everything you need to improve your strategic skills blew me away.
This quote reinforced why ChatGPT may have changed the game but we are still as humans operating on an elevated playing field, the field called uncertainty.
“Strategy is more than slide decks, roadmaps, and fancy journey maps. It’s making an informed choice with incomplete information in the fact of uncertainty. Strategy is hard.” (@IAmSAIA)

Suggested Action: Share with anyone who has an interest in strategy. This will save them months if not years.
Finally
This week’s Podcast with David Risley.
David E Risley is a storyteller and domain expert. He is the host of Justice Voices, the podcast that delivers eye-opening stories about criminal justice, healing, and building safer communities.
For 32 years, yes 32 years… David was also a federal prosecutor for the Central District of Illinois, where he led counter-terrorism prosecutions, and was the lead attorney on multi-jurisdictional drug distribution conspiracies for the organized-crime, drug enforcement task force. Safe to say he knows a bit or two.
We discuss a lot about the need for reform and redesign in the criminal justice system. It’s meaty. Enjoy.
That’s a fabulous report pack.
